StepAhead Online High School is part of the Anoka-Hennepin School District. Roles: Information architecture, interaction design, user experience design, visual design, art direction, photography, development (HTML/CSS). Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, Sublime 2.
This program was creating during a time of transition for the district. We were in the midst of a massive website redesign process and knew we would be transitioning to a new content management system (CMS) provider. We wanted to give this site a special look apart from what all of our other sites looked like at the time, so we decided to purchase an HTML template from a service and use it as a temporary measure until our mass migration was completed.
This plan knowingly forced me to become better at modifying and maintaining HTML and CSS on the fly. I include it here because I’ve always thought it was a good example of my problem solving skills (how do we make this program stand out from our not-so-great CMS at the time) and adaptability. I had a basic understanding of HTML and CSS before starting this project and by the time we were done with it a year or so later, I was very comfortable with modifying and maintaining existing HTML.
The StepAhead Online program is now part of the district's regular CMS and no longer exists in this HTML/CSS format. I am checking into the possibility of posting the HTML files online somewhere, if possible, so stay tuned!
