One of my current projects is designing a website for Team Carcussen (a.k.a Team Carc), a husband and wife cycling team (of which I’m a proud member). This is a pet project designed to showcase my skills and thought process using User Centered Design (UCD) and Agile methods.
To that end, I plan to cover as many of the high-level design phases (strategy, research/discovery, analysis, design and production) and associated tasks (personas, scenarios, user flows, sketching, wireframing, mockups, prototypes, development, reviewing, testing, delivery) as I can. Completed segments will be added to this section upon completion. Stay tuned!
Defining the brand
Team Carcussen - The team that rides tandem together stays together. The team’s enthusiasm for cycling began in 2016 as a new year’s resolution to get back into shape and has blossomed into a full-fledged lifestyle. As the couple started participating in cycling events later on that year, they knew a unified cycling kit and logo was needed, and thus, Team Carcussen was born. The name is a combination of the team’s first and last names.
Around the same time the name was decided upon, the team learned that there’s a town in France called “Carcassonne.” An antique glass pattern made by the A.H. Heisey Company also bears this name, which only solidified the name further.

Purpose and goals
The purpose of this website is to share updates on Team Carc’s cycling activities with its target audience (fans of Team Carc, sponsors, potential sponsors, family members, friends, Strava and Zwift app followers and other cyclists). Team Carc will achieve this with regular updates on ride activities (solo and together), event participation (i.e. velodrome track riding 101 class, criterium series, cyclocross intro class) and any ongoing projects (i.e. building up a tandem bike frame for velodrome riding, bi-weekly video podcast on local cycling events).
Measurements of success
By the end of the 2019 cycling season, the team will hopefully have achieved an additional sponsor and 50 subscribers on a forthcoming team YouTube channel, which will experiment with local cycling news delivery in video podcast format.
Design
I enjoy creating sketches the old fashioned way - with pen and paper. I’m currently in the midst of creating sketches for the Team Carc site (mobile first, then web). More sketches will be added to this page as they are completed.
